Another photo Amoz Gibson Project from Michael Silas on Facebook.

We need some help with the names.
I just found these comments about names:
Dana Haghighi: "The guy kneeling in the front row is Payam Nadimi, his brother's name is Payman. The guy in the San Diego U shirt is myself, the last name of the girl in front of me is Rutstein, don't remember the first name. Next to me is Phyllis, behind her is Phil/Riaz Castillo, and to his right is Jahanshah Khadem, who has her hand on Jacqueline Left Hand Bull's arm. I remember everyone on this picture but have forgotten their names. This is a teaching trip from the Amos Gibson Project in SD. "
Kathy Bennett: "I was there too , this photo was taken in Rosebud. L-R Kyle Brown (man holding the stroller) Leo Eagle Elk, Felix Charging Whirlwind ,I'm the one in the blue shirt Kathy Vicenti , Doug and Betty Harris between me and Jacqueline Left Hand Bull ... All other names are correct..."

Audrey and Johnathan Reynolds to 2012

1981 AK Echo Cove John, Shunka, Nur, Audrie1.ti
Family outing to Echo Lake, north of Juneau. Our dog Shunka (Shunk Tanka Wiun) considered herself to be part of the family even to the point of unsuccessfully trying to climb onto a hammock where Audrie was lying. Shunka was a lover of humanity and showed her affection. She would pull a sled with Audrie shouting, “On! On!” as they bounced over snow.

1983 AK Nurullah, Audrie & Johnathan.tif
Family portrait. Don’t we all look so very dignified? Audrie was the strongest binding force in family unity as she was in LSA meetings and with our friends throughout Standing Rock and the many other places where we lived.

1985 SD Larry Scott.tif
Dear Larry Scott. He moved into the same apartment building in Fort Yates as we had lived from 1963 to about 1965. He soon became a very frequent visitor to our supper table and attended many firesides. Vera Barron from Jamestown, when visiting us, would scold him, “Larry, you know you are a Bahá’í. Why don’t you sign that enrollment card?” Larry would just smile and flick the card in his fingers. This not enrolling meanwhile helping out in all Bahá’í activities, even serving as a teller at LSA elections was part of the wonderful relationship that our community enjoyed.
Later on, at an “Bahá’í ADVANCE” held in a northern community in North Dakota Larry declared. There he stood with tears streaming down his cheeks and a huge smile on his face. Everybody loved Larry. He served with great humility and high intelligence. His gentle humor was always there, encouraging laughter from all.

1992 PK Audrie in #98.tif
Our flat, #98 Bulvar Ribetskoy Slavi, was the Bahá’í Center for many years. We joked about the picture on the wall, explaining how excellent the fishing in the lake picture was. So many firesides, LSA meetings, a wedding, frequent visitors, cups of tea, wonderful joyous moments were part of our living there. We were committed to pioneering and this was our final pioneering post. We lived there for nineteen years and witnessed many Declarations.
Audrie served as Auxiliary Board Member for all of Kamchatka Peninsula and had close connections with the several Native groups there. She was instrumental in organizing two Native Gatherings that attracted many people from the native tribes both from Kamchatka, Canada and the United States. Kevin Locke visited two times and created bonds of friendship with both the Native people as well as the Russian people. These were days of great happiness for us and there is now a well-functioning Bahá’í community there.

1999 UK Malvern John, Eric, Audrie
We visited Audrie’s cousin Merilyn in Malvern, Worcester. Merilyn’s dog Eric has the idea that I come specifically to take him for walks. So Eric is indulged in frequent walks to a small park where he enjoys running about. Audrie has her wide smile. She is a full-blood English person so visiting England is always a treat for her. Merilyn, our perfect hostess, is always kindness personified.

2004 MOSCOW Reynolds & Lyssogors.tif
Sasha Lyssogor, architect, his wife Nadia and their three children became very close friends for several years and then they moved to Moscow. They all spoke English. Audrie spent many hours coaching Sasha in spoken English language.
Sasha, having been indoctrinated with Atheism during the Soviet Era, gradually promoted himself to Agnosticism. He was very friendly to the Faith. Their children are now grown up, and the youngest one is just finishing university, studying architecture.
On our trip through Moscow Sasha met us at the airport in his car, transported us to their flat and we were guests for our few days there and then delivered us to train to take us to the airport. We still communicate by mail.

2007 Haifa Audrie & Johnathan.tif
We had permission to have a three-day Mini Pilgrimage in Haifa. We were hosted by friends from Juneau who were doing a year of service while living in Haifa. So, here we are at the top of the terraces with the Shrine of the Báb and the harbor laid out below us. We visited all the buildings and the new Western Pilgrim Center. We had lunch with several friends from Alaska all doing their year of service. Blessed moments.

2007 AK JUN Audrie dabbling toes in a mountain stream
Audrie enjoys hiking in the mountains around Juneau. She and Nurullah go on these hiking trips together. All streams are produced by snow melting so that water is COLD! But, there is no stopping Audrie’s smile. “Show a smiling countenance to all” said ‘Abdu’l-Bahá.

2007 IRELAND Audrie & Johnathan.tif
This was one trip starting in Petropavlovsk, through Moscow, through Haifa, through England to Ireland, returning to England and then flying to Juneau and then returning to Petropavlovsk.
We took the ferry from England to Dublin where we were met by pioneers Earl Redman and his wife Sharon O’Toole, both originally from Juneau. While in Dublin we visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral where George Townsend had been Dean and visited his grave. Earl and Sharon took us to their home outside Dublin and we visited several tourist areas. Ireland is indeed a very beautiful country.
Audrie was wearing a silver and turquoise neck pendent made for her by Franklin Khan, USA NSA member and Navajo. Many wonderful people among the Navajo. We met Jim & Roann Stone, pioneers living in Gallup, NM.

2009 N. Dakota Fargo Marion & Audrie Pumpkin 1.tif
This trip took us from Juneau to Fargo, North Dakota where we were met by Marion Kadrie. The huge pumpkin was just outside her house. Audrie expressed amazement at the size of the pumpkin.
Marion drove us to the Unit Convention in Selfridge, South Dakota where we met Delores Taken Alive from 40 years before and the friends attending the Convention.
The feeling of being at home on Standing Rock after 40 years away was – well, words are not adequate to describe the feeling. This was HOME. We were treated as guests of honor by the friends and our days as Pioneers to Standing Rock were mentioned several times. They spoke of Larry Scott with great love. These few very happy days live on in our memory.

2009 N. Dakota Fargo Marion & Audrie Pumpkin 2.tif
During the trip from Juneau to Fargo we stopped at Seattle. We were met in the airport by an employee of Alaska Airlines and a State Trooper who informed us that we were to be taken directly to Virginia Mason Hospital as per orders of our family Dr. in Juneau. We had not been informed of this. Our Dr. had diagnosed that Audrie had an incurable but treatable disease and she was to be examined by a neurologist at the V M Hospital to determine the proper dosage of medicine. We said that we were going to continue on to Standing Rock and would return in a week to enter Virginia Mason. So, on we went to Fargo and returned the next week for a few days at Virginia Mason.
Discussion about the pumpkin elicited questions about the possibility of the small ones to grow larger. It was decided that since they were no longer attached to roots they would grow no more and would end up in pumpkin pies.

2009 PK Audrie & Koutchek 1.tif
There was this small black puppy crawling across the street toward Johnathan with cars passing by. It was absolutely necessary to rescue him and bring him to the flat. He was immediately made a member of the family. Audrie named him Koutchek, which means “small”. He soon outgrew his name. Sapa, our other dog was friendly at first and then became wary when Koutchek got bigger and bigger and dominated Sapa more and more. But, Audrie was the “Alpha dog” and became the loved boss of both.

2009 PK Audrie & Koutchek 2.tif
Koutchek is saying in dog fashion, “I love you.” Sometimes the recipient of the method of expression is just a little uncomfortable. We returned to Douglas, Alaska in September 2009 for health reasons and brought both Sapa and Koutchek with us. Mike Ashton, a long-time Bahá’í friend who lives some distance from Douglas visited and he and Koutchek fell in love with each other so Koutchek now lives in Wrangell with the Ashton family.

2009 PK Elena Abravmovna, Audrie, Iraida Ignatenko
Elena, Archivist for Kamchatka, always brought gifts every time she visited. She declared very quickly after just a few firesides. Iraida is very quiet and easy to get along with. She and her son visited many firesides and then she declared.

2011 AK AUDRIE FELL ON JNU HILL.tif
Audrie and Nurullah enjoyed hiking up and down the mountains that surround us. Audrie slipped and fell with no injury. Here she is, laughing at the mishap. She never never complained when she fell, as she did occasionally even when she broke her wrist falling on ice in P-K and when she broke her hip. She always had a smile no matter how serious the injury. She is an amazing woman!

2012 AK Audrie Portrait 1.tif
The unconquerable smile. Audrie kept up her good spirits despite diminishing physical capabilities. Visitors had their spirits raised by her unfailing cheerfulness. Here she is in her favorite rocking chair. She was fed and medicines administered through a tube that went through the abdominal wall directly into her stomach.

2012 AK JUN Audrie in Rocking Chair
Again, Audrie’s favorite rocking chair. Sapa showed his love, devotion and friendliness to everybody. Here he is showing his age (14 years) with white around his muzzle. He died during the late spring. We were glad to bring in that wriggling all-black puppy during 1998 out of the cold of P-K winter and introduce him to regular meals and lots of love, which he reciprocated.
The piano was brought out infrequently and for short times only. Johnathan eventually was able to buy a real piano and it is played daily.

2012 AK JUN LITTLE HOUSE Audrie in Rocking Chair.tif
In the lower right corner – Sveta Pepin, (declared in P-K) here visiting with her husband Roger from Canada (former pioneer to P-K). Sveta knitted a sweater for Johnathan. Audrie and Sveta are laughing over something.

2013 AK JUN Kevin Locke
Kevin danced at the Floyd Dryden Middle School on February 15, 2013. You can see the students applauding. Later, that evening, Kevin danced for a Native American drumming and singing group led by Justin Macdonald, a Lakota. It was a meeting of two men who had tapped into spiritual power and were helping people in spiritual growth. Moments of justification of the Native American Way and its effect on properly lived lives.

More with the Reynolds North Dakota

1968 ND YATES RIDVAN LSA.tif

The first Fort Yates LSA was formed during November 1964, one year after our arrival. At that time there was a special dispensation that LSA’s could be formed anytime during the year. Two of our members, Emma & Sam Fly were deaf mutes and consultation had to be with sign language. This photo was four years after our arrival. Audrie repeatedly drove to all of the 7 districts on Standing Rock Reservation as well as into Montana, Canada and Minnesota visiting many Reservations and creating bonds of love with countless people. One trip she and Johnathan drove the entire western seaboard visiting Reservations.

Audrie met Carol Carpenter, a Tejas Tribe member who told her about the missionaries that came to her. She told them that her father had taught her that, according to Tribal Teachings, there had to be TWO Messengers, not one.

Living in the same rooming house as Carol was a Bahá’í woman who said, ‘But, my dear, there are two, The Báb and Bahá’u’lláh. Carol declared very shortly after receiving that wonderful news.

1969 Land's End Margaret Mrs. Rogers Audrie Johnathan.tif

Land’s End is the southernmost tip of England and is a tourist attraction. The sign is made so that the name of just about any spot on earth and the miles from Land’s End can be posted. So, here we are all posing for this expression of international brotherhood.

Margaret Lord, Audrie’s mother, Audrie and Johnathan. Somehow, having the sign there made Standing Rock seem closer.

1971 ND Proclamation Audrie & Marian Kadrie.tif

Such love between Marion Kadrie of Fargo and Audrie! Marion has always been very helppful in many situations. For instance, when we visited Standing Rock in September 2009, Marion invited us to go to Fargo, spend the two days with her in her home and then drove us to Standing Rock for a Unit Convention. It had been 40 years since our last time there. All the friends were so gracious and kind and made us feel that we had come home.

1971 ND Proclamation Dan Defender, Feredun Jalili, Audrie, Puva Murday.tif

A wonderful get together! Dan Defender stands out as one of the most courteous people we have ever known. He was very humble, quiet, and serene in his attitude toward life. John Halsey was a man who never put himself first and had a quiet humor for all occasions. They served the cause with great devotion and steadfastness. We were privileged to serve on the LSA with them. Here is Audrie with her usual wide smile, radiating friendship. The other 2 men came into our lives very briefly.

1971 ND Proclamation Olly Pretends Eagle, Audrie, Marion Kadrie, Sam Fly .tif

Ollie Pretends Eagle, a quiet lady who had a ready smile, wife of Bernard Pretends Eagle, Audrie with her smile, Marion Kadrie who is shorter than Audrie and a kind servant to the Faith and deaf-mute Sam Fly who with his also deaf mute wife served on the Fort Yates LSA.

1975 ND Delores Taken Alive and child

Precious souls in Little Eagle. Audrie & Delores communicated on the heart level. When we left Standing Rock for the New Mexico we stopped to visit Delores and her husband Walter. Later when we arrived in New Mexico they wrote that when we drove off, they followed us in their car, stopped on a hill and watched our car lights disappear in the distance and cried.

1964 ND White Buffalo - Tatanka Ska.tif
White Buffalo, Great Grandson of Sitting Bull, adopted Johnathan in 1964 and gave him the Indian name of one of Sitting Bull’s uncles, Kiukumpe which means “makes Room.
White Buffalo was a Medicine Man who was very industrious. Here he is shown wearing a wahápa (headdress). He visited us many times and always had interesting stories to tell.
Perhaps one of the most significant stories was about the White Buffalo Calf Woman who gave the Lakota Nation a Sacred Pipe that is kept in a bundle by the Keeper of the Pipe in Sweet Grass, South Dakota. We traveled there with several Native friends and prayed with our Medicine Pipe over the Bundle. A truly significant moment in our lives.

1964 ND Yates Audrie & Ina Mae Brown.tif

Ina Mae Brown, Great Granddaughter of Sitting Bull, a lovely 23 year old Lakota woman had become Bahá’í before we met her. We had heard of her but had not met her. She lived in Little Eagle, (Wanbli Chikala) South Dakota. One day she came to meet Audrie in our home. There was a soft knock on the door and when Audrie opened the door there stood Ina Mae. “Hi. I’m Ina Mae.”

At that first meeting Ina Mae was very withdrawn and not at all expressive. Several meetings later Ina Mae showed her true self, vivacious, full of laughter and very expressive of her feelings and highly intelligent.

When Audrie asked her about why she behaved as she did at their first meeting, Ina Mae responded that her grandmother had taught her that so that the white man would not expect very much from her. This self-protection technique so touched Audrie that she wrote a poem about Ina Mae. That poem includes the reaction of a teen age Indian girl who, when she first met In Mae, could not believe that such a beautiful woman could be Native American.

Some time later she and White Buffalo and Charlie Brown, all members f the Sitting Bull family joined together in adopting Ted Blackmore, a visiting Englishman who had been instrumental in introducing and educating Audrie in the history, artwork, and famous names in Native American background when she was 15 years old.

1964 ND Yates Audrie.tif

She was looking at something. Maybe it was a flower. Audrie loved flowers, trees, and all things in nature, animals, and people. Such was her love that it became a magnet that the hearts and minds of everybody who met her was attracted. Animals adored her. When she prayed for flowers, they bloomed brighter. Bahá’u’lláh writes of the power exercised by such people from the next kingdom in benefiting this kingdom. Friends in Wales wrote that they are asking for her assistance in their teaching efforts in Wales.

1965 ND Audrie After Being Adopted.tif

Katie Standing Crow, an old woman, said one day, “I lost an infant daughter. I am going to adopt Audrie as my daughter.” That summer she did adopt Audrie in a three-day celebration. There were many tipis. After the ceremony a Medicine Woman invited Audrie into her tipi and taught about using herbs, grasses and roots to heal sicknesses. Audrie learned her lesson well and used that knowledge to heal both Johnathan on several occasions and also Coonie when he got sick.

Several doctors from Public Health asked Audrie about what she had learned but Audrie declined out of respect for privacy of the Medicine Woman who had taught her.

1966 J & Audrie Natl. Convention 2.tif

This was a wonderful visit to the House Of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois. It was a great opportunity to renew friendships with many people from different parts of USA and to attend the Convention. This was Audrie’s second USA National Convention the first being when she was elected Delegate to the 1964 National Convention. At that time she was almost brand new in USA, having arrived in October 1963. She knew nobody and had to vote for 9 Members to the NSA. She prayed, wrote down 9 names and those were the 9 who were elected! Is that a  minor miracle?

Johnathan and Audrey Reynolds 1963 England to 2013 Alaska

1963 Audrie Courtship.tif

Taken the day before Johnathan’s flying back to USA, during the week of the 1963 London World Congress. Within that one week Johnathan had to convince Audrie that she should marry him. She finally said “Yes” dependent on parental approval.

1963 Congress Outside RAH.tif
Over 6000 Bahá’ís came from all over the world, many in native costume. Before the opening of the Congress they first gathered in the Royal Hotel to meet. It was there that Audrie & Johnathan met. He recognized her immediately from a vision he’d had of her some years before. You may want to see the Bahá’í billboard in the background. Many Two-Decker busses in London carried posters about the Congress.

1963 UK Wales Honeymoon 24.tif
They stayed at a “Bed & Breakfast” near Caernarvan for the honeymoon. A very beautiful place.

1963 UK Wales John on Honeymoon.tif
Many gardens to explore. The shoulder bag is Audrie’s and served for many years. These were days of wonder!

1963 UK Wedding Outdoors.tif
After the Bahá’í wedding program. This old black and white building named Stanley Palace was several centuries old. We never counted the numbers of guests but a guesstimate might say between 70 and 100. One woman came to “Vet” Johnathan to see if he was a man fit to marry Audrie. He passed the test. The love for her from them all the guests was a powerful and living presence.

1963 Wedding, Margaret, Audrie, John, Olive, Hellaby.tif
The wedding was after the London Congress where Johnathan & Margaret had met. Margaret, a not-yet Bahá’í shares a flat with Audrie who holds regular firesides. At first Margaret left for the fireside evenings. Eventually Margaret declared and is a strong Bahá’í. Audrie is her usual radiant self. It is obvious why everyone loves her. Several men come to Johnathan after the wedding and suggest that do not want to hear that she is unhappy. Olive Rogers, Audrie’s mother is an absolute lady and she shares much love. Bill Hellaby was a clergyman and gave that up to become Bahá’í.

1964 Aug 7 Newspaper Audrie Cooney, children in tipi.tif
Audrie lived in a tipi for a week with an adjoining tent with Bahá’í literature available for the many visitors. Coonie was a great attraction to everybody and children were fascinated. Here he is a very young raccoon, enjoying the children. He played with our 4 kittens, they jumping up and down from furniture and Coonie laboriously climbing up and down playing with them until he got tired. Then, WHUMP! He would fall asleep in the middle of the kitchen floor and they would all join him making a pile of fur.

1964 ND Audrie Rising Missouri River.tif
The U.S. Corps of Engineers had built a dam south of Fort Yates, which meant that the Missouri River rose. Here stands Audrie on the west bank of the river with her smile that was so much a part of her. Everybody that met her loved her. She radiated love for all mankind, attracting hearts and minds of countless people everywhere she went.
